Bar Cabinet — Questions & Answers

1221 questions answered. Page 20 of 21.
Which floor lamp height suits a bar cabinet in a Tampines HDB?
A 150-160 cm floor lamp placed at the bar cabinet's end, not the centre, gives reading light without blocking the cabinet's visual line. Arched arms work over a corner bar. Black or brass metal finishes match most cabinet hardware. Budget S$120-S$300 at local lighting stores for a decent height range.
What curtain fabric pairs with a light oak bar cabinet without fading?
Sheer linen-blend curtains in ivory or soft sand diffuse Singapore's harsh afternoon sun without yellowing oak. Avoid silk; it fades and rots near windows. Blackout-lined sheers give bar cabinet styling more polish and block UV that dries timber unevenly on the window-facing side of the cabinet.
Which plant looks best on top of a bar cabinet?
A trailing pothos, a small ZZ plant, or a single ceramic vase with one fiddle-leaf branch works. Avoid plants that need daily misting; the cabinet top stays dry longer. Pot height should stay under 30 cm so the bar cabinet's upper section remains the focal point, not the greenery.
How long does MIDHILL take to deliver a bar cabinet to Singapore?
MIDHILL, a Foshan solid wood furniture maker established in 2008, ships bar cabinets sea-freight to Singapore in roughly 25-35 days after production, plus 3-5 days for local delivery. Each crate uses low-moisture timber, desiccant matched to cargo volume, and a vapour barrier to handle the monsoon season.
How do I avoid common pairing mistakes when styling a bar cabinet?
Do not crowd the top with more than three objects, avoid matching wood tones exactly between cabinet and floor, and skip bar stools upholstered in the same fabric as the sofa. Vary the textures: wood, metal, ceramic, linen. The biggest mistake in small Singapore flats is using dark cabinets against dark walls.
How do I care for a shoe cabinet in humid weather like Tampines or Jurong?
Wipe the cabinet weekly with a dry microfibre cloth, never a wet one, and avoid silicone polishes sold at IMM or Tampines Mall — they soften lacquer over time. Direct afternoon sun through a west-facing window yellows the finish, so park the cabinet against an interior wall. Place two silica gel packs (around S$3 each from Daiso) inside each shelf, refresh every 6 weeks, and you will not see mould even during the December monsoon. A written cleaning sheet ships with every MIDHILL order.
Is a TV console worth the price for a small BTO living room?
For a 4-room BTO at Punggol or Sengkang, a 150–180 cm solid wood TV console typically runs S$700–S$1,400 and easily outlasts two flat-pack replacements from IKEA Alexandra. You are paying for a 10-year structural warranty, longer than your 5-year HDB lease renewal cycle, plus cable routing that hides your PlayStation and soundbar mess. Concrete value: one console, fifteen years of use, no particle-board sag.
Can a 220 cm bar cabinet pass through a HDB lift at Punggol?
Standard HDB passenger lifts measure 1.6 m deep × 1.1 m wide × 2.3 m tall, so a 220 cm cabinet will not fit flat — it must travel on its side at roughly 80–85 cm. Wrap the corners in 5 mm moving blankets from a Tampines self-storage shop and use two men, one on each end. Confirm your lift door width (usually 90 cm) before ordering, because corridor turns add another 15 cm you must clear.
What rug colour matches a walnut bar cabinet in a Scandinavian condo?
Choose a low-pile wool rug in oatmeal, stone grey or muted sage — anything with warm undertone will fight the walnut’s reddish cast. In a 90 sqm Scandinavian condo at Rivervale Shores, a 200 × 280 cm rug grounds the bar zone without crowding the dining path. Avoid pure white; it shows every kopi spill from the espresso machine within a week.
Best paint colour for a bar cabinet wall in a Korean minimal HDB?
Korean minimal HDBs lean toward warm off-whites like Dulux Timeless (15YY 83/053) or Jotun Sensitive White — both hold up under Singapore UV without yellowing the cabinet behind. Skip trendy millennial grey; it casts a cool shadow that makes walnut look muddy. One accent wall in soft clay (Dulux 70YR 28/130) behind the bar reads as intentional, not painted-in-a-panic.
Does a glass-door bar cabinet actually work in Singapore humidity?
Glass doors reduce dust on bottles but trap humidity inside if you run the air-con only at night. Leave a 2 cm gap at the back wall for airflow, and add a small USB dehumidifier (S$25 on Shopee) inside the cabinet. Wipe the inner glass with a damp microfibre cloth every fortnight — Singapore tap water leaves mineral spots within hours otherwise.
What floor lamp pairs with a 150 cm solid wood bar cabinet?
A 150–160 cm arc floor lamp with a black marble base reads as deliberate, not accidental. Place the base 35 cm behind the bar so the arc clears any standing guest at 1.75 m. Choose a linen shade in ivory rather than white; it softens the warm walnut tone without competing. Budget around S$180–S$280 at Castlery or Taobao flagship stores.
How heavy is a 180 cm solid wood bar cabinet before delivery?
A 180 cm solid sheesham or rubberwood bar cabinet typically weighs 75–95 kg crated, well above a single man’s carry limit. Two delivery men, a trolley, and lift access are essential — inform your Punggol or Bedok condo management 3 working days ahead for loading-bay booking. MIDHILL ships in stacking-rated export crates with rigid bases, not thin cardboard, so the weight stays evenly distributed.
Are MIDHILL bar cabinets really made in Foshan?
Yes, MIDHILL has owned its Foshan workshop since 2008 and currently exports to 15+ countries. You can visit the Lecong showroom by appointment — two working days to evaluate your shortlist, five days to lock a specification. Bring a dimension schedule; buyers who arrive with measurements leave with a confirmed specification and dated batch records you can request for your own order.
What cushions go on a bar cabinet stool for a Japandi look?
Choose linen-blend seat pads in stone, charcoal or undyed ecru, 40 × 40 cm with ties, never elastic loops which loosen within a month. Japandi palettes tolerate one accent — try dusty terracotta or muted indigo if your bar cabinet is light oak. Pair with a woven seagrass floor basket underneath; the texture contrast is what makes the corner feel styled rather than assembled.
Will solid wood bar cabinet drawers stick during the December monsoon?
Yes, humidity above 85% RH causes drawers to swell 2–4 mm even on kiln-dried wood. Rub paraffin wax from a supermarket candle along the drawer runners twice a year — it costs under S$1 and lasts longer than silicone spray. Keep your air-con at 24°C overnight; that 5°C drop pulls moisture out of the wood without drying it to cracking point.
How do I style a bar cabinet for a modern Malaysian condo theme?
Modern Malaysian condo styling layers rattan, brass and dark wood — your bar cabinet becomes the anchor, not the hero. Add a 30 cm brass tray for bottles, two ceramic jars for snacks, and a single monstera plant in a black pot. Skip the tropical-print wallpaper; the climate already supplies the greenery through your window at Bishan or Toa Payoh.
What is the standard bar cabinet height for an ergonomic setup?
Most Singapore bar cabinets sit at 90–100 cm, which aligns with a 70 cm bar stool seat plus 25–30 cm of comfortable thigh clearance. Anything below 85 cm forces you to hunch, while above 105 cm feels like a standing desk. For taller households above 1.8 m, push to 102 cm — every centimetre matters when you lean on one elbow mixing a cocktail.
Can I order a custom-size bar cabinet from MIDHILL if standard 150 cm feels too small?
Yes, MIDHILL takes custom sizes in 10 cm increments from 80 cm to 240 cm wide. Custom orders add 20–30 days to production and roughly 15% to the price, but you keep the same 10-year structural warranty. Send your corridor, lift and final placement dimensions together — mismatched measurements are the single most common reason custom furniture gets stuck outside the front door.
What common mistakes do people make pairing a bar cabinet with curtains?
The biggest mistake is floor-to-ceiling sheer curtains in a heavy pattern — they compete with the cabinet’s wood grain and shorten the room visually. Pick linen-look polyester in a single neutral, hung 5 cm above the window frame, pooling 1 cm on the floor. In a Punggol or Yishun unit with 2.7 m ceilings, this trick adds 15 cm of apparent height without anyone knowing why.
Does the MIDHILL warranty cover humidity damage in Singapore?
The 10-year structural warranty covers joint failure, wood splitting from kiln-dry defects and drawer runner collapse. Humidity-related surface issues — mould, lacquer blooming, top-coat yellowing — are excluded because they stem from care, not construction. Use the written cleaning instruction sheet included with every shipment; following it is the difference between a smooth claim and an embarrassing one.
Which plant works best beside a bar cabinet in a condo with low light?
A ZZ plant or snake plant tolerates the 2 m corridor light most Punggol and Bedok condos offer next to a bar zone. Both survive on fluorescent bathroom-grade lighting and weekly watering, costing S$15–S$25 at a neighbourhood nursery. Skip fiddle-leaf figs — they sulk, drop leaves, and make your freshly styled cabinet corner look like a plant hospice.
Is the American king bed Japan style still popular for HDB master bedrooms?
The American king bed japan style — a low-profile solid wood platform at 25–30 cm height — fits a 4-room HDB master bedroom at Sengkang or Woodlands far better than a European-style tall bed frame. You keep visual ceiling height, gain under-bed storage drawers, and the silhouette suits both Korean minimal and Muji-leaning interiors. Measure your doorway first; an American king mattress is 193 × 203 cm and will not rotate.
Where should I put a Mid-century modern solid wood accent chair in a small condo?
A Mid-century modern solid wood accent chair belongs in the dead corner beside your bar cabinet or next to a floor lamp — anywhere a 75 × 75 cm footprint disappears into the room’s geometry. Avoid floating it in the centre of a 90 sqm Punggol living room; the chair needs a wall or cabinet to anchor its splayed legs visually. Add a 50 cm side table and you have an instant reading nook.
Is an oversized sideboard for kids room a good storage idea?
An oversized sideboard for kids room works better than a typical toy chest because the 60–80 cm height lets a 5-year-old reach toys independently. Choose rounded corners and soft-close drawers — Singapore HDB doorways are 90 cm wide, so anything beyond 180 cm needs side-loading through your lift. Anchor it to the wall with the included L-bracket; curious climbers will test it within a week.
What is the best way to clean fingerprints off a bar cabinet top?
Mix 1 part white vinegar with 3 parts water in a spray bottle, mist a microfibre cloth (never spray directly onto the wood), and wipe in the direction of the grain. Dry immediately with a second cloth. The job takes 90 seconds and removes the oily residue that flat-pack furniture leaves looking grey within a month. Avoid any cleaner labelled ‘degreaser’ — they strip lacquer.
Can I leave my bar cabinet near the kitchen stove in a HDB open kitchen?
Keep solid wood at least 90 cm from the cooking zone — HDB stove flames reach 180°C at the hood level, which scorches lacquer within months. A heat-resistant stainless panel between the stove and cabinet costs under S$60 and is invisible behind your spice jars. If your Punggol BTO has the stove flush against the dining wall, push the cabinet to the perpendicular wall instead.
How do I know if a bar cabinet will fit my corridor turn before I buy?
Measure three points: front-door width, lift door width, and the tightest corridor turn (usually 90 degrees, requiring 1.2 m clearance diagonal). Photograph each spot with a tape measure in frame and send it to the seller before paying the deposit. MIDHILL’s sales team can confirm in writing — that single email has saved more Bedok and Bukit Batok buyers from a S$120 re-delivery fee than any other step.
Is the Japandi style suitable for a Singapore HDB shoe cabinet?
Japandi works beautifully in compact HDBs because it favours light oak, clean lines, and closed storage. Pair a low-profile oak veneer cabinet with a beige linen bench and one fiddle-leaf fig. Avoid dark walnut finishes over 90cm wide — they dominate small Tampines or Jurong foyers and make the space feel like a wardrobe corner.
Can you recommend a large shoe cabinet for living room use?
Yes. A 150–180cm wide sideboard-style cabinet doubles as a media console. Check depth stays under 40cm so your sofa walkway remains comfortable. Solid oak handles air-conditioned rooms better than MDF. Confirm corridor access: HDB fire-escape corridors measure roughly 120cm, meaning 180cm clearance outside fit? diagonal means delivery requires the service lift, usually 90cm wide.
I want an oversized shoe cabinet for my study — sensible?
A 180cm cabinet works if your study is at least 2.4m wide, common in newer Punggol BTOs. Use the top as a printer station or display shelf. Confirm the lift opening at your condo; many are 90cm wide, meaning a 180cm clearance outside fit? diagonal means the cabinet must be flat-packed under 90cm cartons and assembled in your room.
Will a 120cm shoe cabinet fit through my Punggol condo lift?
Most Punggol condos have lifts with doors around 90cm wide and cabins 1.6m deep. A 120cm cabinet fully built may not fit inside, but the cabinet still runs through the lift because corridors measure 90cm — split cartons 90cm or smaller. Always confirm the service lift dimensions with MCST before ordering to avoid a failed delivery.
Best paint colour to pair with an oak shoe cabinet in a white HDB flat?
White walls need warmth. Try Dulux Timeless Grey (00NN 56/000) or Jotun Sensual Beige 10584 for the feature wall behind it, which cools the blue undertones of oak. Keep ceiling white. A 90cm-wide cabinet against a coloured wall becomes the natural focal point in a Bedok 5-room entryway.
What rug size works with a 120cm shoe cabinet in a condo foyer?
A 120cm cabinet needs a 150x80cm or 200x80cm runner extending at least 15cm past each side. In Singapore humidity, choose indoor sisal or low-pile polypropylene over wool — wool absorbs moisture and smells. Lay a PVC mat beneath to protect the rug from wet shoes during monsoon season, December through February.
How many pairs will a 90cm wide shoe cabinet actually hold?
Expect 12–16 pairs across three shelves if each shelf runs 28–30cm deep. Sliding drawers lose about 20% capacity versus open shelves. For a Bedok family of four, that fills up fast. Add a separate wall hook above for daily trainers and keep the cabinet for shoes worn weekly, not daily.
Does solid wood really matter for Singapore shoe cabinets?
Yes, especially on the top surface. A hand-rubbed gloss finish uses a sequence of progressively finer abrasives, paste on felt, buffing, then swirl-mark removal — never one polish. Lacquered horizontal panels and cabinet sides often use different finishing systems because wear patterns differ. Ask which system your maker applies before buying.
What curtain colour matches a dark walnut shoe cabinet?
Dark walnut pairs with warm neutrals: oat, taupe, or sand curtains in linen-look polyester, since linen wrinkles in our humidity. Avoid pure white, which cools the wood too much, or jewel tones, which clash with the brown undertones. A 150cm-wide walnut cabinet looks balanced with floor-length panels hung just below the ceiling line.
How do I style a bar cabinet in a Scandinavian-themed Jurong condo?
Pair a light oak bar cabinet with a low-pile wool rug in stone grey, a black arched floor lamp, and linen curtains in oat. Keep wall art above it minimal — one A2 print or a single floating shelf with two ceramic vases. Avoid dark mahogany finishes, which break the Scandi palette, and skip glass doors if you want a cleaner look. A trailing pothos on top softens the rectangular silhouette nicely.
Will a 100cm bar cabinet fit through my Punggol condo lift?
Most Punggol EC and condo service lifts have an 80cm-wide door and a 1.5m-deep cabin, so a 100cm bar cabinet in a flat-pack box usually clears the door. Measure diagonally — lift doors are 210cm tall, anything over 200cm packed height is a problem. If your cabinet is fully assembled, you cannot bring it through a condo passenger lift; book the service lift with management 3 working days ahead, since bookings cost SGD 50–120 per slot.
How to clean a bar cabinet without damaging the lacquer finish?
Use a soft microfibre cloth dampened with plain water, then dry immediately — standing water on edges is the number-one warranty-voiding mistake. Never spray silicone polish, acetone, or Mr Muscle on lacquer. For sticky wine rings, a drop of mild dish soap on the cloth works, wiped off within 30 seconds. A written cleaning card ships with every order listing pH-neutral cleaners only, and abrasive scouring pads will visibly dull a hand-rubbed gloss finish within weeks.
Which bar cabinet suits a Japandi-style Bedok HDB flat?
Pick a bar cabinet in light ash or natural beech with flat panel fronts, finger-pull handles, and visible joinery. Aim for 120cm wide so it doubles as a sideboard. Pair it with a low walnut TV console, a curved paper floor lamp, and a single stem of dried pampas in a stoneware vase. Skip mirrored backs or glass shelving — they fight the warm, matte Japandi palette. Soft white walls like Nippon 1051-A keep the look grounded.
Do bar cabinets get mouldy during Singapore's December monsoon?
Yes, any unsealed MDF or plywood cabinet will bloom mould within 2–3 weeks of monsoon humidity. Solid hardwood with a closed-pore lacquer resists it far better. Place the cabinet at least 10cm from the wall for airflow, run a dehumidifier set to 55% RH, and never let wet glasses drip onto the surface overnight. If you already see black spots, wipe with 1:10 white vinegar, dry, then refinish — under warranty, surface mould is reviewed case by case.
Can I request a shorter bar cabinet, like 90cm, for my small HDB dining area?
Most Foshan workshops accept custom widths in 10cm increments, so a 90cm version is standard. Lead time is 25–30 days versus 45 for a full bespoke build, and the deposit is usually 50% by bank transfer. Confirm the internal shelf height — short cabinets often compress stemware storage to 22cm, which fits tumblers but not Burgundy glasses. Delivery to a Bedok or Jurong flat typically runs SGD 60–90 with two-man lift-up service.
What should I buy first when furnishing a new Punggol condo dining corner?
Anchor the corner with the bar cabinet first, then build the rug size around it — a 160x230cm rug leaves 25cm of floor on all sides, which reads intentional rather than cramped. Next, choose a floor lamp with a 150cm stem so it can arc over the cabinet without crowding. Buy dining chairs last; rushing seating leads to mismatched leg heights that scratch the floor and make the cabinet look crooked against the wall.
Is a 120cm bar cabinet too wide for a HDB corridor with a fire escape?
The minimum fire-escape corridor width in any HDB block is 1.2m, and most are 1.5m, so a 120cm-deep cabinet will block the route — keep depth to 40cm max. Width along the corridor matters less since you walk parallel to it. Measure the actual corridor between handrails, not wall to wall, because meter boxes eat 30–40cm. A slim 35cm-deep bar cabinet still holds 12 standard bottles and 8 glasses, which covers most home bars.
How much does bar cabinet delivery to a HDB flat in Singapore cost?
Standard doorstep delivery runs SGD 60–120 for a single bar cabinet, depending on zone — CBD is cheapest, Tuas and Changi most expensive. Lift-up service to your floor is SGD 30 per flight if there is no service lift. Free shipping kicks in above USD 350 (around SGD 480), which covers most solid-wood bar cabinets. Book a weekday slot 3 days ahead; Saturday slots fill by Wednesday and cost an extra SGD 25.
What is the best rug size to pair with a 150cm bar cabinet?
Go for a rug at least 30cm wider than the cabinet on both sides, so 210x280cm works for a 150cm cabinet. The rug front edge should sit 15–20cm under the cabinet so legs anchor it visually, not float. A low-pile wool or cotton flatweave survives Singapore's humidity better than a thick shag, which traps moisture and can smell musty. Pattern-wise, a subtle geometric or vintage Persian reads as grown-up without fighting the cabinet's wood tone.
Can a bar cabinet double as a buffet sideboard in a small condo?
Yes, bar cabinets with adjustable shelves between 28cm and 38cm work as sideboards for dinnerware, runners, and serving boards. Avoid models with fixed stemware racks if you need flat plates. Look for one with a centre drawer at 8–10cm depth for cutlery. In a 90sqm condo, a 140cm bar cabinet pulled 5cm away from the wall prevents the heavy buffet look and keeps the dining zone breathing room for six chairs.
Do bar cabinet drawers stick during the humid season in Singapore?
Drawers stick when humidity pushes solid wood to swell, especially on cabinet faces oriented north. Fit a 2mm gap at the workshop, run a dehumidifier at 50% RH, and rub a paraffin wax candle along the runners once a month. Cheap MDF drawers cup permanently within a monsoon. If the drawer has swollen past tolerance, file the bottom edge with 120-grit sandpaper — never plane the face, or the panel gap goes uneven and the warranty path gets harder.
Which floor lamp works best next to a bar cabinet in a Korean minimal flat?
A slim 150cm floor lamp with a 25cm linen drum shade, in matte black or ash wood, keeps the line clean beside a bar cabinet. Avoid gooseneck or industrial joints — they fight the soft Korean palette. Position the lamp base 35cm behind the cabinet's front edge so the arc lands over the centre of the top surface. A warm 2700K bulb flatters whisky and oak tones; 4000K makes everything look clinical and grey.
How do I pack a bar cabinet for a move within Singapore without scratching it?
Wrap each panel in 3mm EPE foam, then a layer of moving blanket, then tape — never use bubble wrap directly on lacquer, it leaves imprint marks in heat. Stand panels vertically in the truck, never flat. Stone and mirror panels travel in padded slots with polished faces never touching. If the original export crate is available, reuse it — those crates are engineered for stacking compression, racking, and edge impact better than any improvised box.
What cushion colours match an oak bar cabinet in a Tampines BTO?
Dusty sage, muted terracotta, oatmeal, and ink navy all sit comfortably against light oak without competing. Avoid bright primaries — they make oak look yellow. For a Japandi-leaning BTO, go sage or oatmeal linen; for modern Malaysian, try terracotta or rust velvet. Two cushions on dining chairs and one lumbar on a nearby bench is enough; more than that and the cabinet's wood grain disappears behind colour noise from every angle.
Is a French shoe cabinet a good match for a Singapore HDB entryway?
A French-style shoe cabinet in distressed cream or soft taupe pairs well with Singapore HDB entryways if the door width is at least 70cm and the unit depth stays under 35cm. Look for louvered doors to ventilate against monsoon humidity. Avoid anything wider than 120cm — most HDB entry walls are only 1.2m before the door swing starts. Two tiers of removable shelves handle 12–16 pairs, which covers a typical family of four.
What size shoe cabinet do I need for a family of four in a 4-room HDB?
Plan 4 pairs per family member, plus 2 guest pairs and 4 utility slots — that is 22 pairs total, needing roughly 80cm wide by 35cm deep by 120cm tall. Each pair uses 22cm of width on average; ladies' flats need 18cm, trainers need 28cm. For a Tampines or Punggol family, a 100cm-wide shoe cabinet is the practical sweet spot. Anything narrower than 70cm forces diagonal storage, which crushes shoe shape over time.
Which shoe cabinet fits a 4-room HDB living room without crowding the sofa?
Choose a shoe cabinet under 100cm wide and 35cm deep so it sits flush against a side wall without crowding the sofa walkway. A 90cm-tall unit doubles as a console for keys and mail. Avoid anything deeper than 40cm — it eats the living room's traffic lane and looks bulky next to a 90cm-deep sofa. Lift-up doors work better than swing doors in tight layouts; you can stand 20cm closer without opening clearance.
How long does shoe cabinet delivery to a Singapore HDB take?
In-stock shoe cabinets deliver within 5–7 working days to anywhere in mainland Singapore, Sentosa included. Custom sizes push to 25–35 days. A two-man team handles doorstep drop-off; lift-up to your floor is a separate SGD 30 per flight. For Jurong and Tuas, expect an extra day due to zone routing. Tracking link arrives by SMS the morning of delivery, and the driver calls 30 minutes before arrival — no need to take a full day off work.
What are common pairing mistakes when styling a bar cabinet?
The three mistakes I see most: hanging a curtain rod only 10cm above the cabinet (it looks accidental, not designed), placing a rug that stops short of the cabinet front (the cabinet appears to float), and putting a floor lamp directly behind it (the lamp disappears). Leave 25cm between curtain rod and cabinet top, let the rug tuck 15cm under the cabinet front, and pull the lamp forward by 35cm so it frames, not hides, the piece.
Does MIDHILL offer custom finishes for bar cabinets?
Yes — MIDHILL, a Foshan solid wood maker running its own workshop since 2008, offers four lacquer systems: nitrocellulose, cross-linked polyurethane, polyester, and a hand-rubbed gloss built up through progressively finer abrasives, paste on felt, and final buffing. Horizontal surfaces often use a tougher top coat than vertical panels. The 10-year structural warranty and 2-year surface warranty apply, and you can request dated batch inspection records and photos for your specific order before shipping.
Should I place a plant on top of my bar cabinet in a Bedok HDB flat?
Yes, but choose carefully. A trailing pothos or string of pearls in a stoneware pot softens the rectangular silhouette and tolerates air-con dryness. Avoid plants that need daily misting — constant water on lacquer voids the surface warranty within a year. Keep the pot on a cork or felt coaster, never directly on the wood, and rotate the plant weekly so light damage does not streak the surface. Ferns drop leaves into open glassware, which is annoying at service time.
What bar cabinet depth works in a narrow condo dining corridor?
In a dining corridor narrower than 2.2m, keep the bar cabinet depth to 30–35cm so two chairs can still pull back without hitting the cabinet face. Standard 40cm-deep units eat 8–10cm of walkway each side, which compounds fast. Measure from the nearest chair back, not the table edge — that is the real pinch point. A 35cm-deep cabinet still fits standard 750ml bottles lying flat and most tumblers upright on a single shelf.
