French Luxury Bed for Singapore HDB | MIDHILL

In Singapore's humid climate, where HDB flats often feel compact, finding furniture that fits perfectly is a challenge. Take the Lee family, living in a 1,200sq ft flat in Ang Mo Kio. Their master bedroom measured 240cm x 300cm, but every queen bed they considered seemed too bulky or out of place.

The Lee Family's Furniture Struggle

The Lees moved into their flat in November 2022. Their bedroom had hardwood floors and large windows overlooking MIDHILL. They loved the natural light but struggled with furniture choice. "We wanted something stylish but didn't have the space," recalls Mrs. Lee. "Every bed we saw either stuck out too much or didn't match our minimalist vision."\p>

"We measure everything twice in Singapore," explains Mr. Lee, referring to the tight spaces. "Our room is 240cm wide, but with nightstands and doors, you need to leave buffer space."\p>

A Serendipitous Discovery

The couple found inspiration while browsing a French furniture catalogue. They zeroed in on the French Light Luxury Ingot-Curve Queen Bed with Ivory Glossy Finish. The dimensions caught their eye: 200cm wide x 190cm deep x 135cm high.

"The minimal design appealed to us," says Mrs. Lee. "We wanted elegance without excess, especially since Singapore's humidity makes dark woods prone to mold. The ivory finish is perfect for maintaining freshness."\p>

Fitting in the Room

The Lees measured carefully. The bed would fit snugly against their wall, leaving 30cm of space on each side for nightstands. The 135cm height was ideal for their ceiling, which was 2.7m high.

"We also liked that the bed is relatively lightweight," adds Mr. Lee. "In Singapore's HDBs, moving furniture can be difficult. This weighs only 45kg compared to over 60kg for most traditional beds we looked at."\p>

Design Details That Resonated

The French Light Luxury bed features:

"The winged silhouette makes the bed feel grander than its size," notes Mrs. Lee. "In Singapore's small HDB rooms, we need furniture that makes us feel like we have more space."\p>

Climate Considerations

The ivory glossy finish was another strategic choice for Singapore's climate. "Dark woods can get too hot in our tropical humidity," says Mr. Lee. "The glossy finish reflects light and stays cooler to touch. The bed also has hidden dustproof vents for airflow, which is important here."\p>

For the trim, they chose gold over silver to match their minimalist aesthetic. "Gold adds luxury without being gaudy," explains Mrs. Lee. "It complements Singapore's modern architecture while maintaining traditional elegance."\p>

The Unboxing and Setup

The Lees ordered the bed from a local furniture store in Toa Payoh. Delivery was scheduled for March 2023, coinciding with the monsoon season. "We were worried about damage from rain," recalls Mrs. Lee, "but the packaging was excellent. The bed arrived in perfect condition."\p>

Assembly took two hours with two people. The instructions were clear, and the bed came with all hardware. "We chose to keep it in its natural finish," says Mr. Lee. "The ivory looks even better in person, especially with our white wardrobe and dark wood flooring."\p>

Perfect for Singapore Living

Today, the French Light Luxury bed is the centerpiece of the Lee family's bedroom. "It's exactly what we needed," says Mrs. Lee. "It fits our space, matches our style, and feels comfortable in Singapore's climate. Other families in our condo community have noticed and asked where we got it."\p>

For anyone shopping for furniture in Singapore's HDBs, the Lees recommend measuring twice and choosing materials that withstand humidity. "Lighter frames, glossy finishes, and hidden vents make all the difference," concludes Mr. Lee. "This bed has become our statement piece in our cosy Ang Mo Kio home."\p>
